The SilencerCo Octane 9 2.0 is a user-serviceable 9mm pistol suppressor. With the popularity of the original Octane, SilencerCo set out for a new sleek design that still offered the same performance as its predecessor. Offering excellent user-serviceability, the Octane 2.0 utilizes the unique Click-Together Assembly (CTA) baffle formation, which allows the shooter to effortlessly disassemble and maintain this suppressor. The 2.0 baffles also have “indexing” indents machined into the baffle to aid in alignment when reassembling the silencer after cleaning. Using on The only good thing about the extended wait period is that there is time to figure out exactly which accessories I need to make this work so I had the piston as well as the fixed barrel spacer ready to go when I picked up my Octane 9 after a 5-month wait. Found out immediately that it works as intended with subsonic ammo. I really found no effect with standard velocity ammo. I knew that going in but confirmed it with first day trials at the range. The heavier grain Has are super quiet. For money savings, grab some 124 grain FMJ and check the manufacturer’s web site for the FPS rating. In my two range trips I am having success with the Blazer 5201 at 1,090 fps but will keep trying any I can find sub-sound barrier.
Bottom line: the Octane 9 does as intended with any sub-sonic 9mm ammo.
Using with a Tisas Zigana Gen 3 requires a piston and functions flawlessly.
Using with a Hi Point TS995 Carbine. I bought the fixed barrel spacer and functions flawlessly. I also bought the Alpha Direct Mount and it also functions flawlessly. Now that I have it I realize for a fixed barrel I think you only need one or the other. I’ll keep the Alpha Mount as a back up.
What I don’t like is that the online videos and manual all instruct to remove the expansion tube with the baffles. mine wouldn’t come out so instead of forcing it I contacted SilencerCo. Received a response within 24 hours reporting that the expansion tube does no come out. I don’t like that because 1) that complicates cleaning when the time comes and 2) it’s a change that they have not updated in their literature or their support instructions.

I would haver rated them 5 stars except they require purchasing a separate attachment device. So even though I purchased a silencer it is just a paperweight until you get the attachment device. I feel that, at a minimum, they should provide at least the screw on attachment at the minimum. Especially as a 9mm silencer whos primary use would be with a pistol the screw on attachment would be logical and provide better value for the money spent.

The Octane 9 was my first can. It works.
On 9mm handguns it’s kinda long – but it works.
On 5.7×28 handguns, it’s kinda long – but DANG, does it work (especially with 62gr Subs). It’s Hollywood quiet.
On my AR9 SBR, with 158gr or 165gr loads, it’s freaking awesome, and has pretty much become a permanent addition.
Now I have two Octane 9’s. For the price, it’s REALLY difficult to beat.

Noise reduction level is good.
However, compared to my SF Ryder 9:
1. The same or very similar noise suppression level at an outdoor range using no hearing protection. Hearing protection is probably not required when using Octane 9 or Ryder 9.
2. Point of impact shift is greater than 3/4 inch at 10 yards. Much worse if/when suppressor slightly loosens. By comparison, Ryder 9 POI shift at 10 yards is less than 1/2 inch and can be rotated/indexed to make it repeatable.
3. Octane 9 does not include a piston in the purchase price. Ryder 9 includes a piston making the Octane 9 price advantage disappear.
4. When cleaning Octane 9 you must use the piston and screwdriver wedged into the piston slots for leverage, the instructions say to do that, to remove the end cap to gain access to internals. By comparison, the Ryder 9 comes with disassembly tools and guide rod.
5. Outer diameter size requires suppressor height sights (as expected), red dot is above and no problem. Ryder 9 OD is slightly smaller, no need for taller sights.
To summarize, the Octane 9 is just OK. Having to buy a piston (or spacer) separately just to make it “work” makes the price the same or higher than Ryder 9. The POI shift and no ability to index/reindex is a disadvantage. I would not buy again.
