I waited 9 months and the suppressor wouldn’t thread. Smith and Wesson asked me to return it and told me it would be 5 weeks before they would be able to take a look at it

The suppressor wouldn’t link to its included muzzle brake out of the box. A phone call to tech support ended in me needing to send it to Gemtech for “repair”…as if NFA jail time wasn’t enough of a nuisance.

**Edit: after searching high and low, contacting S&W/gemtech through email/phone call and every dealer in my area the ETM mount seems to be non existent for this gun outside of the one they send you. DO NOT buy this suppressor if you have any plans on using it for more than 1 firearm.**
So far no problems, I love the half turn mount as well, good lockup so far haven’t noticed it coming loose. I only have about 250 rounds through it but am excited to shoot it more. The pass through system is great I get very little back through the system to me. This is also being ran on an adjustable gas block with a lightweight bcg and a silent captured spring system. I am getting great ejection patterns as well right around 3’o clock. May end up looking into the 7.62 variant next because of how much I like this one.

I was very impressed with the performance of the Abyss on a 5.56 Zastava M85 with a Jmac HUB adapter. First off, its light weight, seems durable and well made, and did an excellent job of routing excess gas forward away from the shooter which means no gas in the face. Combined with the KNS piston, I am in love with this combo. Used roctite for a solid fit.

Price and Build Quality
The Gemtech Abyss 5.56 offers exceptional value for its price. The build quality is impressive, with a clean and sturdy design that allows for a clear view of the internal baffles. I’ve been using it with a Dead Air Xeno Mounting Hub and have had no issues.
Performance and Back Pressure:
I recently upgraded my SBR to better handle the back pressure from my 5.56 SoundGuard Suppressor by Daniel Defense. After implementing a few modifications, including a Radian Raptor SD charging handle and an H3 buffer, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in gas management.
The Gemtech Abyss 5.56 is noticeably quieter than the Daniel Defense 5.56 SoundGuard, but the real difference lies in back pressure reduction. I no longer experience the unpleasant gas taste that I encountered with the SoundGuard. While the SoundGuard had a negligible point of impact shift, the Abyss does exhibit a slight downward shift on my SBR. I’ll be testing this further with my 16-inch rifle to see if barrel length affects point of impact.
Comparison to Daniel Defense SoundGuard
Despite the price difference of around $500, I believe the Gemtech Abyss 5.56 is a superior choice. The reduced back pressure and improved gas management make it a much more comfortable suppressor to use. However, if point of impact shift is a critical factor, the Daniel Defense SoundGuard might be a better option. I plan to conduct a night fire comparison to evaluate the light signature differences between the two suppressors.
Overall Satisfaction
I’m extremely satisfied with the Gemtech Abyss 5.56. It’s a reliable, effective, and comfortable suppressor that offers excellent value for the price. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality suppressor for their 5.56 rifle.
